Ging nichtzur Marine, sondern nach Amerika, überblickte die Weltlage und gingkurz vor dem ersten Weltkrieg nach Amerika. In Montebello bei LAbrachte er es zu weltberühmter Rosenzucht (er war gelernter Gärtner),zu der Schwarzen Rose. Er heiratete eine Norwegerin; sie hatten keineKinder.
