Born at 176 Palisade Ave, Jersey City NJ, Christ Hospital, the same place as his two daughters. Baptized at Palisade United Presbyterian by Pastor R N Acheson. In his childhood, he lived at 494 Bergenline Ave, Union CityNJ. He and Meta married at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bergenline Ave.
During high school, Ed was a member of the National Defense Mechanics Club. He worked as a ball mill operator at Callite Tungsten (a tungsten carbide manufacturer) during the war. He enlisted in the Army on 10 March 1944 atFt. Dix. He served in France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Germany under Gen. Patton in the 3rd Army, 76th Division, 385th Regiment, 1st Battalion, Company C, 3rd Platoon, 1st Squad. (The 385th had been one of Audie Murphy's unitsbefore combat.) Ed was stationed at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, then staged at Camp Myles Standish, Massachusetts 15 Nov 1944 until shipping out from Boston on 24 Nov 1944 aboard the SS Sea Owl, arriving at Southampton on 4 Dec 1944.They crossed the English Channel and landed at Le Havre on 12 Jan 1945, crossed into Belgium 23 Jan 1945 and joined the front on 25 Jan 1945 in Luxembourg. They entered Germany, crossing the Sauer at Echternach in mid February1945, smashed the Siegfried Line at Irrel, and raced through Germany capturing many villages. On 11 April 1945 they were about five miles away when Buchenwald was liberated. They served as occupation forces in Zwickau. Theregiment was deactivated on 31 Aug 1945. He then served in Bolbec, France as a guard of a German POW camp, C.C.P.W.E Nr. 23. He returned to the US aboard the USS Le Jeune (the former German cargo liner TS Windhuk), which sailedfrom Le Havre on 27 April 1946. He was discharged from the Army on 6 May 1946. Ed earned three battle stars for his service.
He was a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan in 1949, where he was third in his class as a freshman and became a member of Phi Kappa Phi. B.S. Pharmacy, Fordham University, June 1954. A pharmacist, he received his license28RI01032800 on May 1, 1956 and kept it until April 30, 2003. He opened Husni's Pharmacy at 2503 Bergenline Ave., near 25th St. in Union City in 1957, having filed its business name on July 6, 1956. He and his wife Meta spenttheir honeymoon in Europe, traveling on the M.S. Italia (passenger ship arrival July 12, 1958 in Plymouth, England) and returning on TWA flight 743 on Aug 31. They moved to Cedar Grove in 1963. Over the years, Ed worked atseveral pharmacies, including Ward’s Pharmacy in Boonton NJ (and at times at its Oak Ridge NJ store at the Milton Shopping Center). He semiretired in 1991 and was a Master Gardener for Rutgers Master Gardeners of Essex Countystarting in 1998, a docent at the Montclair Art Museum, and a trustee for the Cedar Grove Historical Society. He was a member of the Cedar Grove VFW and the Senior Citizens Club. He was also a numismatist, philatelist, antiquescollector, photographer, and artist. His grandchildren called him Jiddo.
