Notes for this person

Momma met daddy in the country school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Schoolwas in the Amanas. As told by daughter, Irene Ackerman on August 8, 2006, Age 94; 8:30PMto Robert A. & Lois M. Follmer Father age 10-11 when he came over to America from Bohemia. Momma wasborn in Iowa in a one room cabin, then they built the house. Hismother & sister, Mary Martenec - Sister was 16 and married a mannamed (Martenec). They did work like housework back in those days.Moved to a farm in Cedar Rapids, dad went to a country in school inCedar rapids, Iowa school was in Amanas. Momma met daddy in thecountry school. Mother is from a family of 9 children - Hajek. Theyall lived on the farm. They raised their food, animals and cannedtheir own food. Dad had rabbits which they ate, fruit trees such aspear, peach, apples which they canned. There was no Social Securityat that time. The oldest was Mary, Frank, Momma, Annie, Joseph,Antoinette, Stillborn baby. Albiena, Blanche & Charlie. Mary must havehad a mental problem, she married and had twin boys. I never met her.Momma & daddy went to see her. She lived in Bell Plain, Iowa. Maryraised the window and said," Get out of here." Which is unusual forthe family. So Irene says Mary had a mental problem. Now on HelensHowsers’ side, wife of Clarence (Irene’s brother), Helen had a sisterof the name of Agnes whose oldest daughter hung herself several yearsago. Irene is beginning to think there is something wrong withJolene’s mind since Helen is Jolenes’ mother. Joelene does not speakto her mother or sister unless she has to - KayMarie or Helen. (school teacher changed the spelling of mommas nane to -Hieak, properspelling- Hajek) Mother’s oldest bother Frank never got married, always a bachelor.Very nice, always ate with us when he came to town on Sat or Sunday.Momma cooked up a nice meal. My grandmother on dad’s side lived withus until she passed away. Dad’s side of the family, he had one sisterhad Rudolph out of wed-lock and then had Stanley and William (Bill)they served in WWI (France). They got gassed which hurt their healthand they both had wives & children and couldn’t work their farmsanymore an ended up losing their farms, couldn’t pay taxes, etc andended up in the poor farm (Nursing Home Now). Dad almost had to go toWWI but didn’t have to because of having 5 children. Took single menfirst, etc. Milo was born on K street in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and thelady across the street came to help with the delivery. Everyone wasborn in the home. joe lunacek Ad in newspapers! http://trees.ancestry.com/rd?f=image&guid=b4b7f15a-6264-4ac7-843d-116025be8e99&tid=1193492&pid=32 Joseph Lunacek http://trees.ancestry.com/rd?f=image&guid=59fe4745-3f07-4fde-8564-46decc71b747&tid=1193492&pid=32 Joseph and Annie (Hieak) Lunacek 50th Anniversary! http://trees.ancestry.com/rd?f=image&guid=4bd93fba-6f07-455d-b4c8-996b951533be&tid=1193492&pid=32 Joseph Lunacek Obituary http://trees.ancestry.com/rd?f=image&guid=17876bab-d837-4e3b-b617-f4e1f861a679&tid=1193492&pid=32
