The only thing that I know about Rhoda Melessa Coon is thatshe was born October 1, 1851 in Wisconsin, and she married John W. Kelly September 15,1868. I know that she homesteaded in Clark, South Dakota, and that is where she is buried. I am sure she was in Woodbury county, Iowa at some point, all of my relatives in South Dakota travel[ed] through that part of Iowa.

From Trudy Orr 22 Apr 2011: Dear Cousin Bob Kelley, I am going to write down a little family history as gathered by our Aunt Minnie Kelley. She was County Superintendent of Schools in Pierre for several years. She foundout that her father Robert Kelley came from Ireland to Trumbull County, Ohio andwhen he came to the United States his name was O`Kelley but he lfet off the O and went by the name of Kelley. He came from Northern Ireland which is not Catholic. Southern Ireland is Catholic. My father Thomas Rome Kelley was the oldest offive children. Thomas Rome, Heber (not Herbert) Aunt Elva Sparks, Aunt Saddie McGaffee, Aunt Minnie who never married. After the Civil War our grandfather (over) family moved from Ohio to Wisconsin where my father was born in Pierce County. Then our grandfather moved to Iowa and homesteaded in Ida County. On the Maple River. East of Sioux city, Iowa. My father ran a livery stable and deliveryin town of Ida Grove for about 20 years. My folks moved to Willow Lake, SD where I was born in 1905. There was a Banker there by the name of Dan Chase who owned a ranch on the Chappel Creek. He hired your father to move out there and lookafter the cattle. There was what the y called open range homestead there and also Aunt Saddie and Aunt Elva moved out to teach school and maried Sam McGaffee &Bill Sparks. Have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. WalterPursuant to notice given by commissioners, an election was held January 3rd,1893. Forty-nine votes were cast, of which J.E. Sertz for Mayor received27 votes J.W. Kelley for Mayor received 20 votes
Looks like he lost this election. This book does not have an index and is over 500 pages.
