Mary Elizabeth Ragland was born in Richmond, Va., September 8th,1849and was united in marriage at the age of 17 years with Capt. JohnHenry White of Easton Shore, Va. About fifty-two years ago they movedto Missouri and settled in Chariton County. Nine children were born tothis union: Sidney, Okemah, Okla.; Mrs. O. P. Ray of Canon City,Colo.; Ragland of Little Sioux, Iowa; Mrs. S. C. Laird of Craigmont,Idaho; Nat of Lakeland, Fla.; Troy of St. Louis; William of KansasCity; andHenry of Keytesville; and Trent who died in infancy.
Mrs. White became a Christian in early life and as a Presbyterian, lived a consistent and Godly life untilthe last. In 1919, Capt. Whitepassed away and for over a year Mrs. White visited among her children, but becoming anxious to again be at home, the son, William, established her with him in Kansas City, where she passed awayWednesday, April11th, after four years suffering with diabetes. Shewas taken to Keytesville a weekago Thursday and laid to rest by theside of the departed father, Capt. White.
The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of many friends, especially Mrs.O. P. Ray, who could not be present at the funeralbecause of poor health. Quiteacoincidence in that Mrs. White is oneof a family of nine, all but one survivingher, and she leaves out ofa familyof nine children, eight to mourn her going.
Her marriage was on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in Accomack County.
