Hi John,
You successfully pointed me in the right direction. In your Salvio family
tree, you show James Salvio as my great grandfather, so I sent for his death
certificate. It arrived yesterday and it was definitely him, with
corroborated evidence. I have to admit, that I violated my first rule of
research, which is to keep an open mind. I frequently use "italiangen.org"
as a resource and should have picked up on "James Salvio", but I didn't. It
solved a long held mystery for me, as to what happened with him. I have a
1905 photo of him and my great grandmother (Filomena) is listed as a widow
in the 1910 census. Additionally, she is buried with her son John and
daughter in law Laura in Calvary Cemetery, but not her husband. Thanks to
the information on his death certificate, I contacted Calvary and learned
that he isburied in a common area reserved for the poor and indigent,
courtesy of theArchdiocese. My great grandmother died almost exactly 20
years later, thus buried with son John who died 2 years prior. Under those
circumstances, I know understand what went on. I also learned who his father
was, as well as hismother, but I can't figure what her name was. I
initially thought her firstname was Anna, but now think it was Laura. As
for her last name, I haven'tfigured it out. I tried several variations, but
haven't been able to find anequivalent surname (any suggestions?).
I also want to thank you for the vital records site information. It allows
me to look at the indexes without having to go into Manhattan. Ironically,
Ancestry now has the New York vital records in their database, but not the
visibility that the vital search site has, so thanks for that as well.
