MARTIN L. HOOVER was born the 29th of March 1802. He was the fiveth child of

CHRISTOPHER and ELIZABETH (LOTSPEICH) HOOVER. He was born in Rutherford County

Tennessee. He married MARY A. HOLLAND about 1825 in Rutherford County. They ha

6 boys before Martins death. They were Thomas Holland, Benjamin Franklin, Wile

L., Joseph Albert "Joel", Henry N. & James Christopher.

Martin received a land gift of 150 acres from his father on the 4th of December

1827. This was registered in Rutherford County Deed Book S, page 44, deed #59.

This was witnessed by John Rawlings his brother-in-law, and John L. Hoover, his

brother.

Martin L. Hoover died 5 October 1840, his probate is listed in the Rutherford

County Minute Book #2, page 190. The following is what is written there.

It appearing to the court that Martin Hoover, late of Rutherford County, is dea

and he having left no LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT on his estate. His brother John

L. Hoover, having applied; given bond and Letter of Administration and Security

they are granted. Order by court John F. Holland, Joseph Poindexter, Spinister

Carlock, commissioners lay and set apart to Mary "Polly" Hoover, widow of Marti

Hoover, deceased, one years provision and support to next term of Court.

Martin Hoover, deceased October, 1840. John L. Hoover of Rutherford Co. - You

have given bond and qualified (and) are authorized to take control (of) estate

and return an inventory as administrator. October 05, 1840.

Martin L. Hoover, deceased: Joseph Poindexter, John F. Holland, and Epenitus

Carlock were appointed by court, October 1840, to lay off part of estate for

benefit of widow for one year. They gave her very large amounts of items, such

as 300 lbs. of beef, 25 barrels of corn, 2000 lbs. of pork, 400 lbs. of salt,

100 lbs. of picked cotton, 10 gallons of honey, and more...--

Inventory of Martin Hoover, deceased (excerpts): One negro woman named etty,

about 24 years of age, 12 head of horses, 16 head of cattle, five beds and

furniture, one note on Robert White for $65 due October 20, 1839, one note on

William S. Watters for $150 due December 25, 1840, one note on John McGuire for

$12.00, not good.

John L. Hoover, Administrator: example of extractions for a sales list of the

property on October 30, 1840: Dinner Table to Mrs. Hoover; a William Thomas an

a Thomas Holland purchased many items. Mrs. Hoover bought a lot of furniture

and stock too. Recorded on December 11, 1840.

The 1850 census taken on October 16, 1850, showed Mary Hoover, widow of Martin

L. Hoover living in the Big Springs District of Rutherford County, Tennessee in

dwelling # 928, with a real estate value of $600 for herself and $600 for each

of her 6 sons.

By 1860 the Rutherford County census showed Mary living in dwelling #369 and

having a real estate value of $6000 with a personal estate valued at $2300,

immediately following her residends were those of her sons, Wiley L., James C.,

and Henry N. Hoover.

Carlock wurden durch das Gericht, Oktober 1840 ernannt, zu entlassen Teil der Immobilien für

Nutzen Witwe für ein Jahr. Sie gaben ihr sehr große Mengen von Elementen, wie

als 300 lbs. von Rindfleisch, 25 Fässer mit Mais, 2000 lbs. Schweinefleisch, 400 lbs. Salz,

100 lbs. von gepflückt Baumwolle, 10 Liter Honig und vieles mehr ...--

Inventory of Martin Hoover, Verstorbene (Auszüge): Ein Neger Frau namens Etty,

ca. 24 Jahre alt, 12 Leiter der Pferde, 16 Rinder, fünf Betten und

Möbel, ein Hinweis auf Robert White für 65 $ fällig 20. Oktober 1839, ein Hinweis auf

William S. Watters für 150 Dollar fällig 25. Dezember 1840, einen Hinweis auf John McGuire für

12,00 $, nicht gut.

John L. Hoover, Administrator: Beispiel für Extraktionen für eine Verkaufsliste der
