CATHERINE A. BARNES
Catherine A. Barnes, 101, of Troy, Ohio and Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Shell Point Retirement Community between Ft. Myers and Sanibel, Florida. She was born November 11, 1916 in Troy to the late Irvin E. and Elizabeth B. (Speicher) Agna. She married Edwin W. Barnes May 16, 1942 in Troy, he preceded her in death December 21, 2008.
Survivors include a son, Douglas A. (Teresa) Barnes Sr. MD of Houston, Texas, where he serves as Chief of Staff of the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Houston and Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine; two grandsons, Douglas A. (Elizabeth) Barnes Jr. of Katy, Texas; Christopher C. Barnes of Houston, Texas; and a great grandson, Brian M. Barnes and great granddaughter Dana E. Barnes, of Katy, Texas.
Mrs. Barnes was the Troy High School 1934 Class Valedictorian and a 1938 graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music. She was a Professor of Music at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. She was a member of the Phi Kappa Lambda Sorority, First Lutheran Church of Troy, Troy Music Club, and Troy Garden Club. She continued her passion for music, teaching for many years in Troy as well as performing in local concerts in Troy and Sanibel, Florida. She will be remembered for her style and grace and boundless love for her family.
A private service at grave-side to honor her life will be conducted at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Arrangements are being handled through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 6977 Main St., Houston, TX 77030-3701.
