| Obituary | 8 May 1972 Former Owner Of Coal Firm Dies at 67 --- Lewis E. Beeker, 67, of 1601 Stanforth St., a retired Lafayette coal dealer, died at 1:35 a.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he had been a patient seven weeks. He had been in failing health the last eight months. Born near Battle Ground, Mr. Beeker had resided in Lafayette most of his lifetime. His marriage in 1939 in West Lafayette was to Milly O. LaForge, who survives. Mr. Beeker first joined the J. M. Clark Coal Co. in 1924. That firm later became the Stinson-Clark Coal Co. In 1947, he purchased the Schnaible Coal Co. and changed the name to Beeker Coal Co., the firm he operated until retiring in 1964. He was a 1924 graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Purdue University. Mr. Beeker was a member of Masonic Lodge 492, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, Lafayette Commandery 3, a life member of the Elks Lodge and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Surviving with his widow are a daughter, Deborah K., a student at Indiana University; two sons, Capt. James L., stationed in Mannheim, Germany, and Jerry L. of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, Ross and Robert, both of West Lafayette, and three sisters, Mrs. Earl Frasier of Indianapolis; Mrs. L. R.
