He was also a member of Paul Stout Post 127, the American Legion, in Murphysboro, and was a veteran of World War I. He was a retired edge setter for the former Brown Shoe Co. plant in Murphysboro. Survivors include his wife; a step-daughter, Joan Gree; daughters Rosalie Hannah and Madeline Layne, both of Murphysboro, Margaret Presley of Carbondale, Eloise Jeremiah of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary Fritz of Glencoe, Mo; sons, Sylvester, Eugene, Benny, Wayne, Bill, and Joe; … a sister, Mary DeCarlo; and brothers, Frank, Santo, Ben and Sammy. Two brothers preceded him in death.
