Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas. Mrs. Becker died on Thursday, July 16, 2009 in Lubbock. She was born on May 27, 1927 in Abernathy, where she was raised and graduated from high school in 1945. She married Bill Becker on August 3, 1952 in Lubbock. She lived in Lubbock from 1945 until 1963, moving to Freemont, Calif. and then later to Metairie, La., in 1968. She returned to Lubbock in 1973, where she lived until her death. She was a longtime employee of Furr's Grocery in the bookkeeping department, and she was a member of the Shepherd King Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ormand Kenneth Brown, Joe Tom Brown and James Edwin Brown; and one sister, Jo Ann Shields. She is survived by her husband, Bill Becker of Lubbock; and a daughter, Dr. Deborah Becker and her partner Deborah Moody of Casselberry, Fla. The family suggests that memorials be sent to Shepherd King Lutheran Church, 2122 18th Street, Lubbock, TX 79401.
