H. Behling August Henry Behling, resident of Albany some 28 years. passed away at 10:15 Friday night in the Shackelford County Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for several months, and had been critically ill with cancer the past ten days. Funeral services were held in the First Methodist Church, of which he was a member, Saturday afternoon at 4:00. conducted by Rev. E. l. Yeats. Burial was in the Albany Cemetery under direction of Castleberry Funeral Home. The flag that draped the casket was presented, on behalf of the government, to Mrs. Behling by Joe Blanton, post commander of Tau____ Miller Post No. 61, American legion. Mr. Behling, veteran of World War I, is a former commander of the local post, and the flag at the Legion flew at half mast all day Saturday in his honor. Mr. Behling transferred his membership from the Lutheran Church to the Methodist Church while his family lived in Breckenridge. he was a member of the Masonic Lodge. During his long illness he never complained, and was always patient and kind. He was proud of his family, both of his sons holding commissions in World War II. He was married to Nina Callahan in Alexandria, La. Oct.11, 1920, and they came to Breckenridge to live where he was employed by Humble Oil and Refining Co. He transferred to Humble Pipe Line Co. and moved to Albany in 1926, where they have since lived. Mr. behaving retired as gauger in 1948. Mr. Behling entered the U. S, Army aug. 7, 1914, at El Paso as a private, and served in the 6th Infantry. He was assigned to the Quartermaster Corps in 1916 and then served in the Service Corps. he was discharged in April, 191, at Camp Dix, N. J., as a sergeant first class.
