Born in Lunenburg, he was a son of the late Freeman and Ada (Smith) Corkum. He was a caretaker of the Lunenburg arena for 50 years. He was honorary member of the Lunenburg Fire Department, where he served for 43 years. He was a well-known athlete and long distance runner. He ran in the Boston Marathon in 1929. He was also a hockey player. Surviving are his wife, the former Charlotte Knickle; a daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Walter Nowe), Lunenburg; a grandson; a sister, Isabel (Mrs. Stanley Seamone), Bridgewater; four brothers, Victor, George, Freeman and Arhtur all of Lunenburg. He was predeceased by a sister, Hilda, two brothers, Frank and Hector. The body is at Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Central United Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Glenn MacLean officiating. Burial will be Hillcrest cemetery.
