Publication: Connellsville Daily Courier August 31, 1977: --MRS. VINCENT CHACKAN -- Mrs. Viola Chackan, 82, of Acme, R.D.1, died Tuesday evening [August 30, 1977] in Jeannette Memorial Hospital. She was born April 22, 1895 in Bullskin Township, the daughter of the late John and Catherine Sheets Palmer. --She was a member of the Acme United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the woman's society of the church. --She is survived by her husband Vincent Sr.; six daughters, Mrs. Allan (Thelma) Shafer of Acme, Mrs. Fred (Beatrice) May of Stahlstown, Mrs. Lugene May of Donegal, Mrs. Raymond (Elvira) Kinneer, Mrs. Harry (Wilda) Koffman and Mrs. Reed (Iva) Kinneer, all of Acme; three sons, Domer, Vincent Jr. and Gay, all of Acme. 33 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Opal Porch of Mount Pleasant, and one brother Ellsworth Palmer of California. --She was predeceased by one great-grandson, Joey Specht. Same issue of the newspaper had this information: --Friends of Mrs. Viola Chackan of Acme, R D 1, who Tuesday, August 30, 1977 will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. daily after 7 p.m. today at the Jay A Hoffer Funeral Home in Norvelt where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Ronald Naugle officiating. Interment will be in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
