He was of German extraction, his grandfather having been born in Dramstadt, Germany. Grant DeChant was born in 1866, on a farm, northeast of Abingdon..... In 1939 he became ill with a nerve paralysis, and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg, where he passed away.
