She was born May 4, 1932 in Holladay, Utah. She was the second of four children born to Charles Albert Howell and Pearl Miller. Her siblings are Arva J. (Karl) Nelson, Kenneth R. (Jeanette) Howell, and Joan K. (Norm) Wood. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Arva; and her brother, Ken. She married Alan P. Christensen on February 20, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. She and Alan are the parents of seven children: Cory A. (Terry), Douglas J. (Angelica), Jolene (David) Harris, Nyle K. (Jana), Janae (Steven) Patton, Jenette (Wynn) Hougaard, and Clint E. (Teri). She was also preceded in death by a son, Douglas J., and a daughter-in-law, Noemi Valenzuela Christensen. In addition to her husband and six of their children, she is survived by twenty-seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Arlene graduated from Jordan High School in 1950 and attended Brigham Young University. She accompanied her husband while he served two years in the United States Army in Baltimore, Maryland and New York City, New York during the Korean War. Her career was being a wonderful mother to seven rambunctious children and wife to one rambunctious husband. Arlene served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including thirty-five years as a Name Extractor and Indexer. She also served over twenty years as an Assistant Coordinator and Ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple. The family also wishes to give a special thanks to Camille, Melissa, Lisa, and all the kind supporting staff of CNS for their special care and concern. A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 in the River Ridge First Ward Chapel, 10124 South 1300 West, South Jordan. There will be a viewing held prior to the services at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the funeral in the Lehi City Cemetery, 1100 North 400 East, Lehi.
