Nodaway Township, Page County, March 21[1922]--Another of the old timeresidents of Page county has gone to her final rest. Mrs Rebecca Wagoner, nee Grieme, on March 12, 1922, departed this world and has gone to her heavenly home. Though ailing for a number of years her death came asaddening surprise to many.
Mrs Wagoner was born in Matfelt, Province of Hanover, Germany, Dec 19,1845. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in her early years and remained true to her church until her death.
In 1867 at the age of 22 years she immigrated to America, settling in Cook county, Ill. The following year, 1868, on March 20, she was marriedto Henry Wagoner, a veteran of many battles of the Civil war, with whom in 1871 she came to Page county, Iowa, where she has resided until her death. The union was blessed with twelve children, ten of whom, besides the aged father, are mourning their loss, two having preceded her toeternity.
The surviving children, who with their father mourn the loss, are as follows: John, Henry Jr, Herman, Martin, Karl and Ed, and the daughters,Anna, Mrs H.F. Sunderman; Augusta, Mrs John Herzberg; Lena, Mrs Fred Jenssen of Oklahoma; Alvina, Mrs Ed Sunderman, besides thirty-five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and a brother, Herman Grieme, of Clarinda.
The burial of Mrs Wagoner took place on Wednesday, March 15. The funeral was conducted from the home, where short services were held, to the North Lutheran church, where the funeral service proper was conducted. The officiating minister was Rev F.C. Israel. Her remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery. The pall bearers were her six sons; her undertaker Roy E. Harmon. Mrs Wagoner reached the age of 76 years 2 months and 21 days.
