Notes for James Monroe Mosley
When Jessie Dora died, James Monroe lived with different children. Hestayed for a while with Beatrice and William Prentiss (Will) Mosley andalso stayed with Charles Dewy Mosley and Hettie.

Told to Amy Rodgers by Eula May (Tootsie) Mosley, Granddaughter of JamesMonroe Mosley:
James Monroe would " write 7 page letter on a 1 cent postcard to hisbrothers and sisters". James Monroe Mosley loved to read the paper(spending hours), and also loved reading books. No one was allowed totouch paper until he was through.
James Monroe was also known to be a man of very few words. A favoritesaying was "Well, I'll say."
Story is told of when his wife, Jessie Dora Murphy 's father, John DanielMurphy died, she came to James Monore to tell him the bad news. Hisresponse was "Well, I'll say."
Another favorite saying was "I'll give you a raisin!"
Three of James Monroe's granddaughters (children of William PrentissMosley) are living and reside in Ms.
Grandchildren by other many other children are living also.
On Internet records, James Monroe is named as J.M. Mosley in the MurphyFamily Tree. He also applied for his marriage license to Jessie DoraMurphy using the name J.M. Mosley, Jr.. He used this as his signaturealso on the same record. Since we know his father's name was JamesMadison Mosley, and Monroe referred to himself as a Jr. we can assumethat James Madison Mosley also used J.M. Mosley as his signature. A copyof this marriage license is available for the asking.

Story told to me by Jim Murphy, grandson of Jessie Dora Murphy'sbrother, William Rufus Murphy:
"Jessie and Monroe were always struggling. Monroe ran a grocery store fora while but was somewhat of a free spirit. There was a mean fellow bythe name of Doc who lived close to Monroe - everybody was
afraid of him - known to kill a fellow for very little. Monroe took ashot at him one time and sprayed tree bark on him. John Daniel Murphy,Jessie Dora's father, knew Doc from Monroe County and told him not tobother Monroe. John Daniel wasn't afraid of Doc. Doc seemed to take itseriously....so the story goes."
There is a reunion every year in July for the descendents of James MonroeMosley and Jessie Dora Murphy in Cleveland, Ms.

At this time, there is one known picture of Monroe. He is pictured withhis 2 daughters Bonnie Bee and Katie Dell.

Addendum: There are now reports of another picture of James Monroe. He isstanding by a bridge possibly. We would love to preserve this picturefor future generation of Mosleys. Please check your old pictures andconsider letting us scan the photo. We are able to do alot with cleaningup of old photos with a scanned copy. The original will never leaveyour sight and can not be harmed in the scanning.

Danny Cobb has found another picture who we are hoping may be JamesMonroe. It is a wonderful photo. We are working hard to confirmpicture's identity.
