Notizen zu dieser Person
Alois Klein immigrated to America with his fiancee, Maria Weber, his brother John Henry and his sister Catherine, arriving in New York from St. Thomas on the ship Germanis on 14 May 1866. Probably just a few days after arriving in St. Louis, Alois Klein and Maria Weber were married on 29 May 1866 at St. Mary of Victories Catholic Church, just south of what is now downtown St. Louis, MO. They were married 12 years and had 5 children (all baptized in the Catholic Church) when Maria died on 14 June 1878. Four months later on 8 October 1878, Alois married his housekeeper, Louise Hadler Thul in the German Evangelical (Protestant) Church. Louise had one daughter by a previous marriage which Alois adopted. The first 2 daughters by Louise were baptized in the Catholic Church, but the next two sons were not. Alois left the Catholic Church and joined the German Evangelical Church and raised his children in the Evangelical Church. Two sons of Alois and Maria Klein, namely Joseph and Gustav married in the Catholic Church and raised catholic families, while the other 2 sons, Henry and Alois John, married in the Evangelical Church and raised their families in that religion.
Alois worked in a soap factory during his younger years, and later worked as a saloon keeper. He died at the age of 59 on 26 February 1897. There are as many as 100 living descendents of Alois Klein.
