The rest of the century is mostly delegated to list all the various
trrop units who were stationed with the people of the city. The cost
must have been horrendous as that is what they keep harping
about. At times every citizen had to house and feed 60 troopers.
There are many mentions of a Drost or a Vogt but nothing about
any Bürgermeister until 1799 when Kaufmann Caspar von der
herbst is elected Bürgermeister and the Baker Bernahrd Frye and
Herman Gerd Holthaus to be city councillors (Ratsherren).
In 1800 Kaufmann von der Horst was elected Bürgermeister with
the tinmaker Anton Hülsmann and the baker Gerd Bley as
counsillors. 1801 we have Kaufmann Caspar von der Horst and Dr.
Thambusch and baker Frye to council. 1802 Kaufmann Anton
Holthaus, mayor and baker Joh. Gerh. Bley with innkeeper Anton
meyer to council. Franz Drüding was elected to the eldest on the
group of 16.
