from the Evening Telegraph, Wed. March 29, 1899 Grandma Kentner at Rest After a long Illness, borne with Christian patience and resignation, Grandma Kentner passed to her reward last evening at the home of her son C.W.Kentner, in North Dixon where for many months she had been tenderly cared for. The deceased was among the most highly esteemed of the early settlers of Lee County. Susan (Heller) Kentner was born in Bushkill, Pike County, PA, Sept 30, 1805. Here her youthful years were spent and here in 1822, when only 17 years of age, she was married to William Kentner of the same place. They came west and settled in Dixon in 1850, and subsequently removed to Palmyra township where in 1856 Mr. Kentner Died of typhoid fever, leaving his wife and eleven children, all of whom grew to maturity. Now at the ripe old age of 93 years and 6 months lacking two days, she died from paralysis after a season of utter helplessness extending over ten weeks, which to a woman of her active temperment must have been a severe trial, though borne without a murmur. Mrs Kentner retained, up to the time of her illness all her faculties in a most remarkable degree, and to the very last her mind was clear and active. She was ever a kind and thoughtful mother, a good neighbor, a true friend and a Christian woman. Her death was a peaceful departure to a fuller life and occurred about fifteen minutes after nine o'clock on the evening of Tuesday March 28th, 1899. Her surviving children are: Mrs C. Whitcomb of Beatrice, Neb.; C.W. of Dixo; Mrs Sarah E. Lyman of Rockwell, Iowa; Jacob S. of Arizona; Amos of Golden City, MO; W. A. of Palmyra; Geo. E. of New Mexico; and Mrs. Julia Myers of Palmyra. The funeral services will be held at the home of her son, C.W.Kentner at 1 o'clock of Friday, and in the brick church in Palmyra at 2 o'clock, and will be conducted by Rev. J.D.Leek of the Methodist church of which she has been a member for about 60 years. This individual was found on GenCircles at: http://www.gencircles.com/users/shmurf/1/data/1577
