According the the 1930 US Census, Magdalena was a stenographer with C&P Telephone Company. The date of her death is confirmed by the memorial card distributed at her wake. Her obituary appeared in The Baltimore Sun, February 11, 1955: "Funeral services for Miss Magdalena Potthast, who died at her home, 2417 Ken Oak Road on Wednesday after an illness of several months, will be held from C. Vernon Lemmon Funeral Establishment at 4611 Park Heights Avenue at 9:15 A.M. tomorrow. Requiem high mass will be at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Church, Mount Washington, at 10:00 A.M., with interment following in Holy Redeemer Cemetery. "The daughter of the late William A. and Anne Potthast, Miss Potthast was secretary of Maryland chapter, Telephone Pioneers of America. She was an active member of Court Baltimore No. 254, Catholic Daughters of America and served as grand regent. She also served as state chairman of publicity of Maryland State Court, CD & A, and was a member of the Past Grand Regent's Chapter. She was also a member of the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary."
