William de Montacute, or Montagu, was grandson and heir of William (d. 1217) and son of Drew (d.v.p. 1216) and Aline. He was born circa 1213?. He was the son of Drew de Montacute and Aline Basset. He obtained, as heir to his father and grandfather, possession of his lands in 1234. He married Berta (?). Arms: Argent, three fusils in fess conjoined gules. He was summoned to attend the King, Henry III, into Gascony, against Alphonse X, King of Castile, who had usurped the province after 1252. He was summoned to be with the King at Chester on the feast day of St. Peter, well furnished with horse and arms, thence to march against Llewellin ap Griffith, Prince of Wales, in 1257. He was again summoned to march against Wales in 1257/58 in 42 Henry III. He died on 23 September 1270. http://en.wikipedia.org
