Mrs. Carrie A. Wheat, 82, who lived with a (grand) son, Max A. Wheat, and his wife, at 1560 1/2 South Main street, (Elkhart, Ind.) died suddenly in a heart attack at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Ill from heart trouble for a month, but apparently much improved yesterday, Mrs. Wheat, accompanied by her (grand) daughter-in-law, had started to walk to the nearby home of a friend. Suddenly she sank to the ground, and Mrs. Paul Glase and Mrs. John LeVan, neighbors who heard the call of the younger Mrs. Wheat, assisted her in carrying the stricken woman into the home. There she expired within three or four minutes. Mrs. Wheat, whose maiden name was Nutting, was born in Michigan, June 15, 1856. She spent most of her life in and around Elkhart. Surviving are a son Lucien Allen Wheat of Two Harbors, Mich.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Harvey (Julia) Trout of Union, Mich. The grandchildren are Max Wheat and Mrs. Lloyd (Evelyn) Kershner of Elkhart, William Wheat of Minneapolis (Minn.), Mrs. Richard (Thelma) Porter of Springfield, Ill. and Mrs. George (Dorothy) Brink of Two Harbors, Mich. The body is at the Dale White chapel, 129 South Second street (Elkhart). Plans for the funeral will not be completed until tomorrow. Then it will be taken to the Dale White chapel, 129 South Second street, where the funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be at Union, Mich.
