Eleanor Colbert Borneman. 88. of 2600 E. Jackson Blvd. Elkhart, Ind., and Klinger Lake, Mich. died at 6:20 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 26, 2003) at her home in Elkhart. She was born May 17, 1915, in Elkhart to Charles C. and Florence (Hess) Colbert. She married Edward C. Borneman Jr. on April 15. 1939, in Elkhart. and he died June 19, 1989. Mrs. Borneman is survived by one daughter. Mrs. Tom (Ann) Semans of Dublin. Ohio; three sons, Edward C. (Sandi) III, David C. (Dina) and Charles C. (Linda) Borneman, all of Elkhart; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles A Colbert. Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church. with the Rev. Richard Kallenberg officiating. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery. Mrs. Borneman was the daughter of the founder and president of American Coating Mill, once Elkhart's largest manufacturer. She graduated from Elkhart High School and Smith College, studying during her junior year at University of Michigan, where she was affiliated with Alpha Phi International. After graduation. she worked as a case worker for Tri Township Trustee Relief Office. During World War II, she worked for the Red Cross blood bank. Mrs. Borneman was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. where she served as an officer of the ECW and Altar Guild. She was a founding member of Elkhart General Hospital Women's Auxiliary, Elcona Country Club and Elkhart Humane Society Auxiliary Guild, of which she served as first president. She was also a member of Beta associate chapter of Tri Kappa. Memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or the Humane Society of Elkhart County. Elkhart Truth
