Perhaps born in Oberbiegelhof, Baden. Elkhart Truth, April 21, 1910 SUDDEN ATTACK CLAIMS AGED ELKHART PRINTER ULRICH HEGE DIES FROM ATTACK OF HEART TROUBLE Victim of Sudden Illness Apparently in Usual Health Yesterday - Was Old Mennonite Company Employee Ulrich Hege, for many years a resident of Elkhart, Ind., succumbed to a sudden attack of heart trouble at his home, 500 State street, this morning (April 21, 1910) at 1:15 o'clock. He had been in his usual health up to a short time before the end came, having filled his position in the composing room of the James A. Bell Publishing company yesterday, and had worked in the yard at his home in the evening. After supper and before he retired last night, he complained of pains in his chest, but no serious results were anticipated. He became restless during the night, and at about midnight, the pains in his chest prevented his lying down, and he sat on the edge of the bed. Shortly afterward, he leaned his head on Mrs. Hege, who was putting forth her efforts to relieve him. He became quiet and she noticed he was becoming unconscious. In a few minutes he was dead. The two sons, Robert and Herman who were on the second floor, were called and a physician summoned. Before medical aid could be secured, Mr. Hege expired. Neuralgia of the heart was given as the cause. Mr. Hege was born in Rhine-Baden, Germany, Sept. 7, 1844. He came to America about forty-one years ago, settling in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he remained for several years, and then came to Elkhart and secured employment with J. F. and A. K. Funk, publishers, which firm afterward became the Mennonite Publishing company. For some years in the early '80s a job printing plant in the basement of the building now occupied by Fred Timmins and also conducted a book and stationary store on the ground floor of the building. Later, he moved to Newton, Kansas, where he conducted a newspaper and job plant for three or four years. Owing to reverse of business, he lost all...and returned to Elkhart. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Burial will be in Grace Lawn cemetery.
