Alonzo H. Eyman,78, former city alderman and county board member, died Monday afternoon in his home, 254 Park place. He had been in failing health for several months and had recently suffered a stroke of paralysis.
Mr. Eyman was born March 28, 1857, two miles north of Harristown, in Illini township. He was a son of Captain L. J. Eyman and Martha Giger Eyman. Captain Eyman enlisted at the outbreak of the Civilwar and Mrs. Eyman and sons went to Mechanicsburg. Captain Eyman was killed in service in January, 1863. Mrs. Eyman and her children removed to Eureka in 1872 and there Alonzo Eyman and Sarah FrancesArnold were married,Oct. 24,1877. He and his wife moved to the home farm the following year and in 1901 they moved to Decatur. Mrs. Eyman died here in 1913. Two years later he and Miss Mary w.Moore,then county superintendent of schools were married.
Mr. Eyman was a member of the last city council under the aldermanic form of government. He later served three terms as a member of the board of supervisors from Decaturtownship. He was a prominentmember of Central Christian church and for many years served as an elder, deacon and treasurer. He was a member of Macon Lodge No 8, A.F.and A.M.
He leaves his wife and one brother E.O. Eyman of Honolulu. A nephew lives in Oak Park and some cousins reside in Macon county.
The body was taken to the Dawson & Wikoff funeral home, where friend may call this evening. The body will be returned to the home Wednesday.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm.,Thursday in the Central christian church. Burial will be in the mausoleum in Fairlawn cemetery.
