1. Obituary "A beautiful close to a long and worthy life was that of Mrs.Katherine Flair Schroeder on Tuesday March 25, 1919, when deathclaimed the aged pilgrim, who was born in Hanover, Germany on November2, 1842. Only a gasp marked the passing as she experienced thefulfillment of the promise "And thine age shall be clearer than thenoonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning. Andthou shalt be secure because there is hope; and thou shalt tke thyrest in safety." The deceased embraced the Evangelical faith in youthand the genuiness and depth of guiding power is revealed in thesolidarity of the large family, one of the largest in Saline, into theone religious belief. It was from this church that Rev. Gabler, pastorin charge, ws preceeded by Rev. H.H. Hurst, resident pastor of theChristian church, in performing the last sad rites in the presence ofa large cortege of friends and relatives on Thursday afternoon at 2o'clock. The frauenverian, of which Grandma Flair, as she wasfamiliarly known, was a substantial members, were the last of thefuneral procession to enter the church, and passing the casket eachmember contributed a flower to the profusion of floral emblems whichthe decorations of drapery. After taking the place reserved for them,the body sang "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." Katherine Viebrock was married to Thees Meyer in Germany April 27,1869 and it was that year they came to America, the husband dyingshortly after. She was later united in marriage with Bernhardt Flairwho was the father of the following children, the oldest beingfourteen years: Herman Flair of Blackburn; Mrs. Pete Lanners[Elizabeth Flair], Corder; John Flair, N.D.; Henry Flair, St. Louis;Mrs. Emma [Flair] Herring, Mrs. F.W. Mollenbrock [Mary Flair], Mrs.Fannie [Flair] Rubleman, all of Blackburn. Her son John C. Meyer, whonow resides in this community, also is a part of the family. to thisunion were born eight children of whom the following survive to mournthe loss of this mother of incredible strength and character: Mrs.C.G. Rehkop [Lena Flair], Fred Flair, Mrs. Louis H. Nolte [KatieFlair], Sam and Joe Flair, all of Saline. On April 26, 1891, sheburied the second husband and in 1900 married Thees Schroeder. Inaddition to the above the deceased also leaves one aged brother, Mr.Peter Viebrock, of Blackburn; thirteen grandchildren and sevengreat-grandchildren, nearly all of whom were at the funeral. Thepallbearers were: L. Sunderbrink, A.H. Pape, Herman and August Rehkop,Daniel Kerr, H.G. Koenig".
