Obituary Hilda Maria Krigbaum Staff passed away on Monday, December 21, 2009,in a Davis, CA Hospital at the age of 103. She is survived by her son, Sam Krigbaum and his wife, Sue, ofNorthern California. She also leaves to mourn her passing, manygrandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom were special and dearto her heart. She was born June 29, 1906, in Bowdon, North Dakota to John Tonn whowas born in Besserabia, South Russia and Maria Bietz Tonn who had beenborn in Crimea, South Russia. The family left North Dakota and movedto Lodi in 1922. She was the sister of the late John H. Tonn, Lydia Tonn Jesse, GotleibTonn, Daniel Tonn, Emanuel Tonn, Lucas (Luke) Tonn, Martha TonnBaumbach, Otilla Tonn Ely, Emil Tonn and Jake Tonn. She was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist faith at the LodiCentral Seventh-day Adventist church in 1925. That same year, shegraduated from high school here at Lodi Academy. Hilda attended White Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in SouthernCalifornia graduating from there with her degree as a Registered Nursein 1928. She married Charles Krigbaum and they made their home inLodi. She said that her greatest joy was the birth of her son, Samuel,making their family complete. She was employed in the offices of Dr. S. W. Leiske from 1944-1948.She also served as the first Director of Nurses for a short time whenLodi Memorial Hospital first opened. After that she was the SurgicalFloor Supervisor at Lodi Memorial Hospital in 1952 and 1953. Sheserved as a Volunteer with the Crisis Line for 10 years, as well.Accordingly, her favorite Biblical scripture was First Corinthians 13,the chapter on Love and Charity! She then worked for Dr. Franklyn Wendell from 1956 to 1960. Herbeloved husband Charles Krigbaum, then owner of Lodi AmbulanceService, and a man who was very active in the establishment of LodiMemorial Hospital, passed away in 1960. From 1961 to 1966 she wasemployed in the offices of Dr. Colby Dunscombe. She moved to Hawaii, where she was employed in Oahu as a NursingSupervisor on the medical floor at Castle Memorial Hospital from 1966to 1972. She met a fine gentleman, Herman Staff, and they were marriedthere in 1970. A few years later, they retired and moved to Lodi. They were active members of the Lodi English Oaks Seventh-dayAdventist church. She held many offices in her church over herlifetime, including Church Deaconess, Church Hostess, AssistantMissionary Secretary, Primary and Junior Division Sabbath SchoolTeacher, and Active member of the Dorcas Society of the church formore than 25 years. She loved to garden, (especially Roses), sew, paint, and read, andtravel to her favorite places: Yosemite and Hawaii. Her husband, Herman Staff, passed away in 1989. She then lived withher son for many years, and until the last eight months, Hilda wasable to continue to share her thoughts and her joys with her family! Presently, no services are planned. Her expressed and written wish was"to meet all her family and friends in Heaven, as Jesus Greets all theSaved of this Earth!" Lodi Funeral Home has been honored to be inassistance to Hilda's family. Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to Loma LindaUniversity School of Nursing, NVOSS Worthy Student Fund, P.O. Box2000, Loma Linda, CA 92530; or to a Charity of one's own choosing.
