Emigration in 1814 to Arzis Besserabian. Friedrich Maas born on 20 May 1791 in Treptow/Prussia, his professionwas a saltworker. 1812 - Emigration to West Prussia 1812 - Marriage with Maria nee Kruckenberger born in 1789 in WestPrussia 1814 - On the journey to Bessarabia, their son Christian was born on24 December 1814. 1814 - Arrived in South Bessarabia. They spend one year in atransitional accomodation. 1816 - They settled down on the construction site they were assignedto. When they arrived there, they just saw a meadoo that was coveredwith swamp with no trees. After waiting a long time they got the first support. 10 rouble,shrubs, boards and plans, doors and windows. It was very easy to buildcabins. They just put 4 uprighrs in the ground and put props on them.Over these props they layed pipes and grass. To compress the roof, tput loam on it. The walls were made of stakes and were connected withshrubs. After they put loam on both sides, they smoothed it out. They had good luck with the weather. That is why the houses were readyto enter very early. 1817 - They built a kind of church, where they prayed. This buildingwas also a school. 1819 - Arzis, got its name (It was called Johansshort) 1827- After a long discusion with the tenant farmers, every family got60 hector of land. 1829 - Plague broke out. 180 people died. 1831 - 22 people died because of the cholera. 1837 - The first church was established and opened on the 30th March1838 1848 - Many people had bad crops because of locusts, catepillers andbeetles. 1862 - Arzis had 186 students. 1890 - Gottlieb Maas wanted to emigrate to the Unites States ofAmerica together with his two brothers. He wasn't allowed because ofthis son Gottlieb, who had only one eye. His two borthers Friedrich(married) and Gustav (single) emigrated to North Dakota, USA. 1890 - Gottlieb Maas sold his house and court in Arzis and emigratedto Bulgaria. 1893 - He went back to Mannsburg/Bessarabia 1912 - He went to Sarjari/Maraslienfeld. 1914 - He died there. 1918 - Bessarabia belonged to Romania again. Friedrich and Maria (Kruckenberg)Maaas of Prussian Poland crossed partof Moldovia on their way to the new Bessarabian colonies and it wasthere at Christmas 1814 that their twins Christian and Martin wereborn. The boys became engaged to Alt Elft girls on 9 Dec 1837 and weremarried in a double ceremony. Anna Maria probably died in childbirthwhen their third child was born. Martin or "Moritz" as he was calledin the record of his second marriage and Lousa had 12 children.
