A twin of Baldwin Clifton, he served in the Virginia Colonial Militia during the French and Indian War (Seven Year's War) and removed to Kentucky, as early as 1786. The following are extracts from the investory of estate of Burdett Clifton, taken from the records in Washington County Court House, Springfield, Kentucky (filed 1 January 1799): Negro Dave and Hannah his wife, Negro Jack, one bay horse & one black, one filly, seven cows, 3 yearlings, linen wheel, frying pan (and quite a list of other items). The total amount of is estate was 368.19.1. It has long been speculated by the family that Negro Dave and Hannah his wife accompanied Burdett and Rebecca Clifton from Virginia, to Kentucky, by flat-deck boat, after migrating to the Ohio River, in about 1786.
