Julius Walter Dagenhart(b 31 Oct 1842 - d 15 May 1915)
was the son of Henry Wilhelm and Mary "Polly" Moser Dagenhart. He was a private in the Confederate Army. He was captured near Merietta Ga. and sent to Camp Douglas in Cook County Illinois were he endured torture and hardship. Finally in April of 1865 he swore the oath of allegiance and joined the Nortern Army to get out of Prison. He walked Barefoot all the way home to NC.
He married Eliza Elizabeth Stewart the daughter of Thomas Jackson and Mary Emily Paris Stewart. Eliza was a sister of Rebecca Catherine Stewart who had married Levi Lorenzo Dagenhart the brother of Julius.
Julius Walter Dagenhart was a fine Carpeneter and cabinet maker. He built a fine two story L shaped house on a hill above his Father's Spring. He was the lead Carpenter in the construction of the 1886 Marvin UMC Church. He was given the old Arbor and Log Union Church which he removed and used to build a large Barn.
Julius was able to give each of his children a farm deeded from his father's original plantation.Those who did not receive land received the equivalent in Money.Most of his children built Houses near their birth place and the area came to be affectionately known as Dagenhart Town.
Julius developed Dropsy and on May 15th 1915 he was sitting with his granddaughter Correan on the back porch of his home an dthey were taking truns scraping an apple and eating the scrapings. The Apple fell from his hand and he slumped over dead from heart failure.
The Hessian Henry Degenhardt died splitting rails. Henry Wilhelm Dagenhart died chopping wood and Julius died Scraping an apple.(All had Dropsy known today as congestive heart Failure)
