Obituary from the Petaluma Argus-Courier Archives Jerome Beatie, MD Orthopedic Surgeon Jerome Caltoft "Jerry" Beatie, a third generation Petaluman and prominent local physician, died in his sleep Feb. 23, 2002, following a two year battle against prostate cancer and anemia. He was 66. The son of Alfred W. Beatie and Irma Nielsen Beatie, he graduated from Petaluma High School in 1953. He was recognized there for both his academic achievements and his year-round athletic abilities in football, basketball and track. He was one of the founding inductees of the Petaluma High School Hall of Fall in 1997. Dr. Beatie attended Stanford University on an academic and football scholarship. An outstanding tight end on the school's football team, he graduated in 1957 with a degree in history, and received his M.D. also from Stanford in 1961. He was one of the first specialist to open a practice in Petaluma. In addition to his office in town he practiced first at Hillcrest Hospital, later at Petaluma Valley Hospital, and served on the PVH board. He also cared for patients at Presbyterian Hospital in San Francisco and at the infirmary at San Quentin prison. A competitive athlete his entire life, Dr. Beatie loved all sports and had a passion for golf, his family recalled. He was a past president of the Petaluma Golf and Country Club. He was active in the Petaluma Harmoneers and Harmonettes and performed in their productions of "Show Boat," "Oklahoma," and "The Music Man." An animal lover, Dr. Beatie raised Cairn terriers for many years and his dogs often competed in local and regional shows. Following his retirement for medicine in 1996, he and his wife Dr. Linda Beatie, started a career as pet photographers. They founded Paradox Photography and were nationally recognized for their work, Specializing in photographing cats and dogs, their photos were published on greeting cared and in numerous magazines. In addition to his wife, Dr. Beatie is survived by seven children: Mike Sunseri of Seattle, Susan Wilkes of Seattle, Pal Sunseri or Placerville, Jim Sunseri of Larkspur, Breck Beatie or Mountain View, George Beatie of Chula Vista, Thea Beatie of Fairfax and David Beatie of Petaluma, 11 grandchildren and brother Robert Beatie of Ashland, Oregon. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday at Petaluma Community Center, 320 N. McDowell Blvd. In lieu if flowers, the family asks that donations in memory of Dr. Beatie be made to the Petaluma Animal Shelter Renovation Find, 840 Hopper St. Petaluman 94952; or the Friend of Petaluma Campus Endowment Fund c/o Santa Rosa Junior College, 1502 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa 95404 Obituary from The Oregonian Burnace Annabelle Craig A memorial service will be at 2 pm Saturday, July 20, 2002, in Carus Cemetery for Burnace Annabelle Craig, who did July 5 at age 79. Burnace Annabelle Beatie was Morn May 23, 1923 in Oregon City and was raised in the Dalles and Spokane. A homemaker, she returned to Oregon City in 1964, and moved to West Linn in 1971. In 1942, she married Jack. Survivor include her husband; daughters, Ethne Vik, Pamela Jones and Celeste Craig; sisters, Roberta Lamb and Dorothy Glazier; and four grandchildren Remembrances to Hopewell House Hospice Center.
