Anna was 19 years old when she came across to America. However, the scares of growing up in a turbulent time in Russia remained with her for life. Some family members were later told that she was born that way, but a granddaughter of Eva Klasse n remembers hearing what accounted for her extreme shyness. The villagers in Russia would celebrate with the intent to frighten others. On such occasions, they camepainted up and scratched on the windows of the house, scaring little Anna . A fear she never forgot.
Anna lived with her parents until her mother died, then she moved in with her older sister Eva. Anna went to church faithfully while her mother was alive, but after her passing, Anna never left Eva's house. She worked hard and accomplished muc h when no one was around. Eva's granddaughter, who also lived with Eva, remembers leaving potatoes at the bottom of the stairs. Anna would come get them, take them upstairs, peel and return them to the bottom of the stairs. Also before goin g to bed, occasionally work would be set out and in the morning it would be finished by Anna.
Anna not only suffered from fright, but also had very painful sores on her legs which she would need to dress. The working at night and the sores were a few of the things remembered by Eva's granddaughter, Jane Nickel. Most of the other relative s very rarely saw her and had no idea of the work she was able to carry out, since when a visitor came, Anna would be upstairs.
