The U.S. and International Marriage Records database is simply a collection of marriage data culled from pedigree charts and family trees. It is NOT a database of official marriage records. The wives of JacobShipman have been confused, mixed up and mis-recorded for quite a longtime. Decades of research into the Sarahs that were married to JacobShipman have yielded the following information: -Jacob was married first to Sarah Jane Gage in about 1765 in North Carolina. She is said tohave died shortly after their marriage. No children were born to thiscouple. -Jacob was married second to Sarah Kuykendall in about 1766in North Carolina. To this union were born ten children between ~1768and 1793. There is some debate about the maiden name of Jacob's second wife. Sufficient proof has been set forward to identify her as the daughter of Abraham Kuykendall. Some of that proof is as follows: -Jacob died in 1794. His widow then married George Saling in 1800 in Warren County, Kentucky. -In 1814 three sons and a son-in-law of Abraham Kuykendall sell some land. The name of the son-in-law was recorded as George Saellen (Saling). There is additional information in wills, land transactions and naming patterns than what I have outlined here thatlend additional credence to the claim that Sarah (wife #2) was a Kuykendall and not a McMinn. There is also negative evidence that leads tothe conclusion that she could NOT have been a McMinn. Additionally,new DNA evidence is lending additional credence to the claim that Sarah, the second wife of Jacob Shipman, was the daughter of Abraham Kuykendall.
