This is another story written and copied from and original story by Sophia Krull.
My grandparents, Christopher Fredrich Krull and Louise Krull (maiden name Orr) were born in Heidenberg, Germany. They had 1 child about 5 years old. He was born in Heidenberg and they named him Fredrick Chistopher Krull. Grandma was expecting their second child. How many were onboard isn't to accurate on their voyage in the sail boat. They encountered bad storms and also dead calm. They just drifted at times. Theirsails were badly damaged and the passengers got sick. Some died and werewrapped in blankets and dropped over board. They really weren't toosure just where they were. They were 100-8 day crossing. They driftedintothe Hudson Bay and a ship was going out ...they asked for waterand were told they were in fresh waster. They came ashore and they putgrandma in a wigwam and their child was born there and it was a boy. They called him John Krull. So I had an Uncle that was born in an Indian wigwam. They stayed for awhile in the Hudson Bay area then they travelledalong the east coast and worked and got a covered wagon and oxen and traveled west and north and Joe Rubidce asked them to come and make ittheir home and they did and there was only a fur trading placeand mostlyIndians lived there and trappers came to trade and buy their supplies. They came mostly from the northern. Grandfather had work and thatmadehim feel secure and then the Gold Rush was on and he hadwork at different jobs and he had an assignment at Sioux City, IA. They lived therefor some time. While they were there there was an Indiangirl thathada child by a white man. The Indians killed him and thegirl died and the Indian's chief gave the little boy to my grandfatherand they raisedhim with their family as one of their own. They namedhim Jonnie Fry and he was the first to ride the start of the mail toSacramento, CA. A boy by Name of Ritcherson had been chosen, but he became sick andthey switched the first rider to be Jonnie Fry. It was avery cold dampday April the 3 that year and the horse got very restless. My grandfather patted the horse to calm it and assure Jonnie he could make the ride. Hewas about 16 years old and not too large. Afterthe overland mail wasdiscontinuing, he joined the Union army and gotkilled somewherein thesouth of the state of Missouri. But he had killed 5 before hewas himself killed in a land battle by bush wackers.
