Dishman, Evelyn Rose Wiehn Ann Arbor, MI. Age 81, died peacefully on September 1, 2007 in her home. Most friends and family knew her as "Dickie," a nickname she was given by godfather and uncle, Henry Keuter when she was a small child. Born September 21, 1925 in Petersburg, Nebraska, she was the youngest of five children born to Joseph and Frances(Keuter) Wiehn. She lost her mother when she was only three and then was forced to survive the dust storms, droughts, and grasshopper plagueduring the "Dirty Thirties" in rural northeastern Nebraska. In 1943 after she graduated from St. John's High School in Petersburg, Nebraska, she moved to Ann Arbor, where two of her sisters and her father werealready residing. Shortly after she arrived she landed a job workingfor the Sealtest Dairy. Soon thereafter she met a Petersburg boy who by chance had also ended up in Ann Arbor, LaVern E Dishman. They weremarried at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on January 6, 1945 andenjoyed 62 loving years together as husband and wife. In the 1970's Dickie worked briefly for Prakken Publicatons. Shortly thereafter she became the Advertising Director for Lakeland Boating Magazine, a position she held for 23 years. Dickie was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church for more than 64 years. Dickie was also a member of the M club. She especially enjoyed attending Michigas football games for many, many years with LaVern, as well as Eileen and Fred, her sister and brother-in-law respectively. Dickie andLaVern could also be found three or four nights a week dining at Knight's Steak House where they enjoyed the cordial company of family and friends. Most of all, Dickie adored her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them or watching them participate in various activities.Dickie is survived by her beloved husband, LaVern, and five devoted children: Larry (Donna) Dishman of Canton, Richard (Randy) Dishman of Ann Arbor, Debbie (Harry Haberkorn) Dishman of Ann Arbor, Cindy Dishmanof Ypsilanti, and Thomas (JoAnna) Dishman of Saline. Dickie also leaves behind nine grandchildren to celebrate her life and cherish her memory: Megan, Ryan, Benjamin, Nicholas, Katie, Bethany, Graham, Casey andConor. They all bear the Dishman surname. Lastly Dickie is survived by her sister Eileen (Fred) Chase of Ann Arbor and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wilfred Wiehn, and her sisters, Helen Pape, and Wilma Gilbert. The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5 at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. Fourth Ave, with the rosary at 7 p.m.The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 6at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 530 Elizabeth St. Memorial contributions in Dickie's memory can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
