Obituary -

Elizabeth Ann Stewart (Barrett)

Funeral services for Mrs. Eliza Stewart Barrett, wife of John S. Barrett will be held at the family residence, 44 sixth East Street, Tuesday, at 12:30 p.m.

Mrs. Barrett was born in San Bernardino, California, April 7, 1855, the daughter of James W. and Jane Dover Stewart.

She was married to Mr. Barrett in 1876, moving with him to Montpelier, Idaho. The family came back to Utah in 1906.

In addition to her husband, the following sons and daughters survive: John A. and Edward Barrett, Twin Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Cynthia Van Ness, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Myrintha Jane and Harriet Barrett, Salt Lake; also two brothers and two sisters.

Dr. Seymour B. Young, president of the First Council of Seventy, a life long friend, in speaking of Mrs. Barrett said:

“Mrs. Barrett was loved by her friends for her kindness in time of difficulty and sorrow. When she lived in Idaho, distances were not too far for her to go and render service to those in need. Faithful as a Relief Society worker, her sole ambition was to respond to every call of sickness and to be consoling tothose who were called to lay away their loved ones.

“She reared a splendid family, and with all her duties to her Church, she first of all made of her home a place where not only her children loved to be, but where her friends deemed it an opportunity to go.”

“Charitable always, she never turned the beggar from her door, nor refused help to those in need. She hada host of friends both in her old home in Idaho as well as in Salt Lake.

She was a devoted wife and lived a high and noble Christian life.” - DLG.
