The funeral for Karna L. Johnson will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing.
Mrs. Johnson, 81, of Red Wing, died Sunday (May 18, 2008) at the Red Wing Health Center.
Karna LaVonne Diercks was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Zumbrota. She graduated from high school in Goodhue, and attended St. John's School of Nursing in Red Wing. She worked for the City Hospital, St. John's Hospital, and the Red Wing Health Center as aregistered nurse for 34 years. On Sept. 5, 1947, she married Raymond Johnson in Goodhue. They lived in Red Wing.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the auxiliaries of Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54 and Burnson Lillyblad VFW Post 1218. She was a Pocahontas and had been a past Great-Pocahontas of the Midwest Area Nokomis Council 27. She was also a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, had served as an election judge, and was a regular blood donor. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and doing word and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include eight children, Raymond Jr. (Diana) of Stillwater, Minn., Janet (Bill) Auchampach of Red Wing, Jean (John) Furney of Hastings, Minn., Karen (Jim) Malone of Wabasha, Norma Haynes of Spooner, Wis., and Patricia (Terry) Hanson, JimJohnson, and Arlene (Ron) Woodland, all of Red Wing; 21 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 30, 2005, a daughter, a sister, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing, and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the church.
