Her generation was the first of the Oberto family to have been born there, as the family appears to have originated in in Issiglio, Turin, Piedmont, Italy, with ancestry going back to Giovanni Battista Oberto, b. abt. 1770. Issiglio is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 45 kilometres north of Turin. Issiglio's population peaked in 1911 (the year of her emigration) at 1,207. There were only 399 inhabitants as of last year. Adelaide and her four sons Mario (Marius Benjamin), Virgilio (Virgil Ulysses), Silvio (sic, Levio A. "Lee") and Alberto. joined husband Narciso Scardigli in Butte, Montana, after a four year separation and after emigrating from Naters, Valais, Switzerland aboard the S.S. Chicago, from Le Havre, France, on 25 Nov 1911, and arriving at Ellis Island and New York City on 5 Dec 1911. Adelaide died in Butte on 9 Feb 1920, from the Spanish influenza, which had finally made it's was there on it's way to killing between 50-100 million people in the worldwide pandemic.
