I have just found out that Johannes Leonhardt b 1797 (known as Charles after he arrived in Sheffield) was listed as a bankrupt bacon factor in
"The Bankrupts Directory - Being a complete register of all the bankrupts with their residences, trades and dates when they appeared in the London Gazette from December 1820 to April 1843".
By George Elwick (1843)
It doesn't seem to have prevented him from setting up a a pork butcher again the following year (1841 census) and then becoming an "eating house keeper" in 1849.
LEONARD, Charles (Pork Butcher, age 67).
Died at Waingate; Buried on July 27, 1864 in Consecrated ground;
Grave Number 3, Section M7 of Burngreave Cemetery, Sheffield.
