Obituary

Stratham - Peter J. Allen passed away peacefully in Dover, on Sept. 17, 2014, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.He was born on Aug. 4, 1927 in Evanston, Ill., to Frederic and Elaine Allen.During World War II, he served in the Army Engineers and in Korea as a captain in the military police with the 8th Army POW Command.He lived in Illinois, New Jersey and New York before moving to New Hampshire in 1978. He moved to Stratham in 2001.He graduated from Rutherford High School in New Jersey in 1945, St. Lawrence University in 1951, and New York University Graduate School of Business with an M.B.A. in 1959.Peter had a 40-year banking career beginning with Chase Bank in New York City, ultimately retiring from Shawmut Bank in Boston in 1993. He served on several boards over the years, culminating with being a member of the Stratham Conservation Commission and a volunteer for the Great Bay Coast Watch. Peter enjoyed golfing, gardening, oil and watercolor painting, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.Peter is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kate Allen, and their two daughters, Julie and Maureen. Julie Bradley's family includes husband, Joe, and their children, James and Grace of Wayland, Mass. Maureen Ferreira's family includes husband, Jeff, and their children, Tad and Isabel of Wenham, Mass. Peter also leaves behind four children from a previous marriage: Julie Kucharski and family of Milford; Robert Allen and family of Syracuse, N.Y.; Thomas Allen and family of New York, N.Y.; and Sarah Curtis and family of Hailey, Idaho.Peter was also especially close to his twin grandsons, Peter Kucharski and family of East Derry, and Ty Kucharski and family of Merrimack, including his great-granddaughter, Emma.His family would like to acknowledge his amazing team of caregivers that for the last six years brought laughter, exercise and friendship into his life. We express many thanks to John Hartshorn of Manchester, Gary Douville, of Eastman, Rick Harden, of Stratham, and Curt Richardson, of Stratham.The caring, skillful and loving staff of Bellamy Fields in Dover provided excellent care, compassion, a feeling of purpose and comfort for this last month.
services: Visiting hours with military honors will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH.
