Hurricane deck amidship was 180 feet long. It was used as a promenade deck for first class passengers. Maiden voyage: Bremen-Southampton-New York, June 24, 1881. Sunk by collision with steamer Crathie in North Sea, January 30, 1895, and went down within a few minutes with the loss of over 330 lives. Sister ships: Fulda and Werra

I, August Widmaier, aged 27 years, occupation Meat Cutter, do declar on oath that my personal description is: Color is White, complexion is light, height 5 feet 6 1/2 inches, weight 138 pounds, color of hair is light brown, color of eyes is blue, with no other distinctive marks.
I was born in Ludwigsburgh, Germany on the 8 day of August, anno Domini 1879; I now reside at 1548 N. Darvin St., Philadelphia, Penna.
I emigrated to the United States of America from Hamburg, Germany on the vessel Elbe; my last foreign residence was ludwigsburgh, Germany. It is my bona fide intention to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, and particularly to William II Emperor of Germany, of whom I an now a subject. I arrived at the port of New York in the State of NY, on or about the 15 day of September, anno Domini 1881; I am not an anarchist; I am not a polygamist nor a believer in the practice of polygamy; and it is my intention in good faith to become a citizen of the United States of America and to permanently reside therein:

The petition of August Widmaier, hereby filed, respectfully showeth:
First. My place of residence is 757 N. DeKalb St., Philadelphia, Pa.
Second. My occupation is Meat Cutter.
Third. I was born on the 8 day of August, anno Domini 1879, at Ludwigsburgh, Germany
Fourth. I emigrated to the United States from Bremen, Germany, on or about the 25 day of September, anno Domini 1882, on the vessel Elbe.
Fifth. I declare my intention to become a citizen of the United States on the 23 day of May, anno Domini 1907, in Phily.
Sixth. I am married. My wife's name is Anna 26. She was born in Phily and now resides with me. I have 3 children, and the names, date and place of birth, and place of residence of such said children is as follows: Katharine Aug. 14, 1905, Martin Sept. 17, 1906, Anna Dec. 15, 1911 born at Phily living with me.
Seventh. I am not a disbeliever in or opposed to organized government or a member or or affiliated with any organization or body of persons teaching disbelief in or opposed to organized government. I am not a polygamist nor a believer in the practice of polygamy. I am attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and it is my intention to become a citizen of the United States and to renounce absolutely and forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, Potentate, state, or sovereignty, and particularly to William II German Emporer, of whom at this time I am a subject, and it is my intention to reside permanently in the United States.
Eigth. I am able to speak the English language.
Ninth. I have resided continuously in the United States of America for a term of five years at least, immediately preceding the date of this petition, to wit, since the 2 day of October, anno Domini 1882, and in the State of Pennsylvania, continuously next preceding the date of this petition since the 2 day of October, anno Domini 1882, being a residence within this State of at least one year next preceding the date of this petition. . .
