This Indenture, made and done this Eleventh Day of May Anno Domini 1801 between Jehoshaphat Starr, Micha Hubbard, Giles Willcox, Elisha Coe & Jareb Stockingall of and select-men of Middletown, in the of Middlesex, on the one Part, and John Rogers of Middletown in the of Middlesex on the other Part, witnesseth T(bad spot in paper)d Select-men have bound, and, by and with the Consent of Elijah Hubbard one of the next Justices of the Peace, do, by these presents bind Richard Robinson, Minor, Son of James Robinson and one of the Poor of said Town, an Apprentice, unto the said John Rogers to learn the Artor Mystery of a Cooper, with him after the Manner of an Apprentice to live, until he shall attain to the Age of twenty one Years which will be on the fifthDay of Feb that shall be in the Year of our Lord, one Thousand, Eight Hundred and Seven And the said John Rogers doth covenant and agree with said Select-men, and their Successors in Office for the Time being, That he will teach or cause to be taught said Apprentice the Art or Mystery of a Cooopers tradeif he be capable to learn, also to read and write, and the common rules of Arithmetic. Also, find for said Apprentice during said Term, sufficient Cloathing, Meat, Drink, Washing, Lodging and Physic. And at the End of said Term, dismiss said Apprentice with two Suits of Apparel, one suitable for common, theother for holiday Wear. Also, give to said Apprentice a Bible.
