William Sr. House was born about 1642 in England. He died in 1704 in Glastonbury, Connecticut. He married Sarah Bidwell about 1670 in Conecticutt. William House came over from England as a crew member on a ship. Very little is known about him except that he was a nearly settler at Glastonbury, Connecticut He died in an attack on Deerfield, Conn during the French and Indian Wars according to one record, and the other says he died in Glastonbury. Very little exists on the parentage of William, but one very learned source, Ruth Verbridge, thought that his parents were John House (also spelled Howse) and Agnes Pinney. John Howse was christened on Mar 5,1586, and was buried Feb 4, 1639/40 in Matacute, Somersetshire, England. He Married Agnes Pinney in 1617 or 1618 in Hardington/Mandeville, Somersetshire, England. They did give birth to a William House in Broadway, Somersetshire, England. This may or may not be him as a data has never been found. Agnes Pinney's parents were John Pinney who died after 1633, and Hogane Harkings. John's Father was William Pinney, Born 1525 in Broadway, Somersetshire, England. Hogane Hawkings' father was Thomas Hawkings. John Howse's father may be Reverand John Howse, son of Thomas Hulse and Ann Hinton, son of Phillip Hulse and Margery Corbett. This is all speculation though. Hale, House and Related Families. pg. 327 ........an original settler though not an early one, who lived before marriage in East Hartford and was mentioned by Gov. John Winthrop as a kinsman of John Stedman. William was born in England(possibly Somerset) about 1642 and died at Glastonbury, Connecticut probably in Feb.1703/4 . He married about 1670 Sarah Bidwell born about 1653 and died before her husband. She is the daughter of John and Sarah (Wilcocks) Bidwell. In 1664 John Winthrop in his Medical Journal (pg.567) mentioned "William Hoose 22 years Kinsman to John Stedman lives at Mrs. Crow on the other side. This refers to the east side of the Connecticut River, the present East Hartford. The inventory of the estate of William House of Glastonbury was appraised 22 Feb 1703/ 4 by Joseph Smith and Thomas Hale Jr. The names and ages of the children were appended to the inventory: Jn House (30), Sarah Smith (28), Mary Hale (26), Anne House (20), William House (19), and Joseph House (16). The ages are plainly written: that of Anne is out of line with baptismal entries, but the 'o' of the 20 is written over an erased figure, perhaps a '4'. An agreement of the heirs was made 8 Mar 1703/4. William and Joseph had assigned to them by consent of their gardins overseers and Brethren and Sister" 66 acres of land'and allsoe the house their Father dwelt in. Signed by John House (mark), Thomas Hale Juner, Ann House (mark) William House (mark), Thomas Hale sen (mark), Joseph House (mark), Mary Hale (mark) Sarah Smith (mark), and Joseph Smith. The elder Thomas Hale and Joseph Smith evidently signed as guardians or overseers of the minor sons. It is mentioned that Joseph Smith and Thomas Hale married two of the daughter. Witnesses: Jn. Beuins, Gershom Smith. The heirs ratified the agreement 7 Apr. 1719, including the widow of John House. !AFN 8H2J-DR Family Search Lorain Library
