There is debate on whether Christopher and William Wadsworth were brothers. The Christopher born in 1609 cannot be William's brother as William's mother Elizabeth was dead before then. The baptismal records for Christopher b. 1609 indicate that his father was Joseph Wadsworth. However, there is evidence that there was a brother Christopher in the Wadsworth family bible that did immigrate with William. Therefore, I am indicating an approximate date of birth for Christopher as there is no indication that William Wadsworth b. 1555 married a second time. Family History: New England Families #2 (I) Christopher Wadsworth, immigrant ancestor, was born in England and came with his brother William in the ship "Lion", landing at Boston, Sunday, Sep 16, 1632, after a voyage of twelve weeks. The old Wadsworth Bible which he brought with him is now owned by the Cowles family of Hartford, Connecticut. He settled at Duxbury, Massachusetts, where he became a prominent citizen. He was the first constable of the town, selectman and highway surveyor at various times. He is mentioned first in the town records in 1633, and in 1638 he drew land in the Holly Swamp. The site of his house is west of Captain's Hill, near the new road to Kingston; his lands ran clear to the bay on what was formerly known as Horton's Hole. The homestead remained in the family until 1855. His will was dated Jul 31, 1677, and was filed in Sep, 1678. He married Grace Cole, whose will is dated Jan 13, 1687. Children: Mary, married (???) Andrews; John, mentioned below; Joseph, born 1636; Samuel. This bible is apparently the one cited in the book "Wadsworth, or the Charter Oak" by W. H. Gocher, along with a first person narrative by Joseph Wadsworth (of Treaty Oak fame) with both documents identifying William Wadsworth and Christopher Wadsworth as traveling together on the "Lion" in 1632. "William Wadsworth, my father, came from Newtown with the Hooker company in 1636 and remained in Hartford the balance of his life. He died in 1675 as is shown by the town records. He was born at Long Buckley in Northamptonshire, England, in 1595, or, as he always stated it, in the thirty-seventh year of the reign of Queen Eliza-beth, and came to New England on the ship Lion in 1633 with his four children, Sarah, Mary, Wil-liam and John, and his brother Christopher.1" The footnote no. 1 states: 1. Christopher Wadsworth's name did not appear on the Lion's passenger list and the date of his landing was unknown until 1881, when E. S. Cowles, of Hartford, Connecticut, came into possession of a Bible in which the following is written: 'Christopher Wadsworth. His Book.' 'Christopher and William Wadsworth landed in Boston by ye ship Lion i6th Sep, 1632, together in ye ship.' This Bible was printed in London by Bonham Nor-ton and John Bill, 1625." The narrative CLEARLY identifies Christopher as the brother of William Wadsworth.
