George & Polly lived in Sandy Mush farming and raising livestock.George took a bunch of hogs to market and sold them. According to hisgreat grandson, Linton Palmer, He fell in with the wrong crowd, got toplaying cards and maybe drinking, too. He lost all of his money. He wasso disgusted he told his wife to load up the wagon, they were moving.They traveled to Jonathan Creek. George told a Mr. Howell that he wantedto go where there were not too many people. He was told that Cataloocheewas like that. they came on across the mountain into Cataloochee in 1838acording to Linton Palmer. George built the house that now houses the little museum. Thestructure was made of logs, cut on the nearby property, hand hewn byGeorge and neighbors. it was one story with two big rooms separated by adog trot. It was typical to heve one room for cooking and eating and theother for sleeping or visting. one or two beds in the back of the room,and in front, chairs around the fire. As the family grew, they neededmore room. Linton said Fayte raised the roof and put in a sleeping loftin the mid 1870's. George (Creek) Palmer
