" "Whilethe enemy had possession of this country, they destroyed nearly all theproperty of Southern men, took horses, hogs, cattle, and Negroes, hay,wheat, even the last peck of grain. Wrecked all the household furnitureand arrested both men and women. You have but little idea of destructionand harrow of war."
