Supverisor's District No. 4, Enumeration District No. 29, Sheet No. 7,June 8, 1900. As compiled by Eleanor Whitehead and told by Fletcher Jerome Holliday: Albert Wesley was born on the Holliday Plantation in (Honea Path)Greenville County. He walked, with his Father James E. Holliday, toDalton, Georgia where, on March 1, 1864 (on his 18th birthday) he joinedthe Confederate Army. (His father, James E., was 43 at the time ofenlistment.) He was a member of Company E, the 16th South CarolinaRegiment, Gist's Brigade, Walker's Division, Hardee's Corps of the Armyof Tennessee. According to my Father, (Fletcher Holliday), and according to my firstcousin, Dan Shealy, he fought in the following battles: July 22,1864 - Siege of Atlanta (General Hood) June 19, 1864 - Siege of Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia (General Joseph E.Johnston) September 1, 1864 - Jonesboro, GA (South of Atlanta) September 2, 1864 - Lovejoy's Station, South of Jonesboro (Gen. Bell Hood) November 30, 1864 - Franklin, Tennessee December 2-16 - Nashville, Tennessee September 9, 1864 - Siege of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee Battle of Chicamauga, Georgia (to be confirmed) May 19, 1864 - Battle of Cass Station, Georgia (James E. was woundedhere.) The accompanying Chronology of the Civil War gives information which canbe used in checking out more specific information about the above namedbattles. General Joseph E. Johnston commanded everything west of theAppalachians, and East of the Mississippi. Sherman opened the AtlantaCampaign against Johnston in May, 1864. General John Bell Hood replaced Johnston July 17, 1864. September 1 Hoodevacuated Atlanta, established a Confederate defense line at Lovejoy'sStation, South of Jonesboro (where Sherman was). October 18, 1864, Hoodretreated into Alabama. November 19, 1864 Hood opened a drive onNashville, Tennessee. He made a heavy frontal attack November 30, 1864 atFranklin, Tennessee. December 2, 1864 he took up a defensive line atNashville, Tennessee. Hood suffered a crushing defeat at Nashville andretreated into Mississippi. Hood was relieved of his post as commander ofthe Army of Tennessee January 15, 1865. February 22, 1865 Johnston isrecalled to command the Army of Tennessee to oppose Sherman's advance innorth Carolina. The foregoing information is being given to help in future research. Ithink the research should include General William J. Hardee, who wasinvolved in the Atlanta Campaign, Battles of Charleston, Chattanooga, andwas temporarily commander of the Army of Tennessee. Major General W. H.T. Walker's Division saw action at Chichamauga. Albert Wesley Holliday'sname should appear on some of these rosters. According to Cousin Dan Shealy, he served at Fort Moultrie, SouthCarolina after the war. He became a farmer and later a contractor inGreenville, S.C. He had 14 children, and is buried in Greenville, SouthCarolina. From Eleanor: Albert was married 3 times. First to Kizah Darby - epilsey in her family. Then to Minerva Jane Robertson then to Emily J.
