Much evidence supports the belief that he was the son of Mordecai LAWSONand Frances STEPHENS of Itawamba Co., MS. C. M.'s first name may havebeen Cooper or Cephus, and his middle name may have been Martin orMordecai. The only Census record providing information for him is the1840 census of Wayne Co., TN, when he and his wife were in the 20-30 agebracket and had one son under age 5. On Jun. 7, 1847 in Itawamba Co., MS,C.M. LAWSON signed a Deed of Trust, together with parents MordecaLAWSON and wife Francis, brother David O. A. LAWSON, andbrother-in-law William C. CYPERT. Those named here are all found in the1840 Census of Wayne Co., TN. The land described in the deed (90 acres inS24 T10S R8E Pontotoc Meridian), sold by Mordecai LAWSON to E.B. HARBOUR,was located about 5 miles SSW of Fulton, just west of the TombigbeeRiver, near Van Buren. On Jun. 5, 1848 at the post office at Van Buren,Itawamba Co., MS, C.M. LAWSON, Mordecai LAWSON, and others signed astatement that one William R. BRUNDINE was an idiot. Land (in S3 T11SR8E), known as "the Lawson Place", is located about 4 miles SSW of VanBuren, a village organized in the 1830s and no longer existing by 1860.Married March 21, 1839, Wayne Co., TN.
